Clouds in a dream
A cloud is defined by what it carries and what it does next: it can water, shade, darken or pass. The interpreters read clouds as bearers, and asked what they were bearing toward the dreamer.
In the readings handed down from Ibn Sirin and an-Nabulsi, clouds (سحاب) were read as bearers: of rain and mercy when they water, of knowledge and wisdom in some readings when white and high, of a gathering trial when dark and lowering, and of protection when they shade, as they shaded the Children of Israel.
The core reading: what the cloud carries
Clouds head the procession that lightning announces and rain completes, so their reading leans on what they deliver. Clouds that hide the sun touch that symbol too: a great figure or matter veiled for a time.
Mercy and provision approaching, the kindest reading.
Ease, or in some readings wisdom and knowledge passing over.
A trial gathering, watched to see if it breaks or passes.
Protection in heat, the note of the shading cloud in scripture.
- Were the clouds bright, rain-bearing, or dark and heavy?
- Did they water, shade, or merely gather?
- Is something building over my life, and what is it likely carrying?
Read them by their cargo, and lightly. These are the classical instincts about clouds, offered for reflection rather than as a ruling or forecast, and best weighed against which kind of dream you had.
Common questions
What do clouds mean in a dream in Islam?
In the tradition reported from Ibn Sirin and an-Nabulsi, clouds were read as bearers of what they carry: rain-bearing clouds as mercy and provision approaching, white high clouds in some readings as knowledge and wisdom, and dark lowering clouds as a trial gathering. The shade of clouds over the Children of Israel adds a note of protection.
Are dark clouds a bad sign in a dream?
Dark, heavy clouds leaned toward something difficult gathering, though what gathers can also break into rain and pass. The interpreters watched whether the clouds gave rain, shade, or storm.
What do white clouds mean in a dream?
High, bright clouds were generally read gently: ease, or in some classical readings wisdom and knowledge passing over. Clouds that shade without darkening carry the protective sense.
